Jarrett

Jarrett watched Ren and his companion walk into the temple, the girl with a dramatic confidence in her stride. To be honest, Jarrett felt a bit snubbed. And she was gloating about it now.
Jarrett was glad he called Ren cold. The guy was frigid. Not friendly in the slightest.
Ren could have been holding that poor girl captive for all Jarrett knew.
Hot, Jarrett thought.
But really, who was Ren to tell the woman she couldn't be touched?
Half of Jarrett wanted to wait for Ren and Jaz to come back out of the temple, see if he could figure out what was going on or maybe just get another rise out of Ren, but a niggling suggestion advised Jarrett against it.
Jarrett shrugged and sauntered off, confident no one had else had heard their exchange. Only bustling people about. And Jarrett didn't really know many people here yet. He was relatively new in town, taking up labor jobs where he could hire them in. The Roens had a little separate home on their property, and Jarrett could keep to himself. Mostly.
Michelle Roen was strange. She shared banter with Jarrett. Really explicit banter sometimes. But he always got the sensation that she was all fantasy. Not that Jarrett hadn't tried.
Courtney Roen mostly kept to himself, which Jarrett could respect.
The long days tending to the farmstead--small by city standards but large by village standards--left Jarrett tired and in a mood at the end of the day. Enough time spent by himself and he inevitably started having those thoughts again.
Not that he always minded them.
But other people seemed to.
